About

I was born by a river….

Like her great grandfather Samuel Carpenter, her grandfather Ben Carpenter and her father Carl Carpenter, Regina was raised in a small town, Clayton,  in northern New York.  It’s a town of guides and fishermen, of trappers and boat builders.  Through words that flow like a grand river,  award-winning storyteller Regi Carpenter captures you with a “voice that dances.”

Regi CarpenterGrowing up on the St. Lawrence River in New York significantly impacted young Regi’s life. Life on the river was anything but ordinary. Underwater tea parties in the summer and strolls across the water’s icy dress in the winter give a child a unique perspective on life. Like the St. Lawrence River, there is more to Regina than meets the eye. Underneath churns an incredible force of energy that makes her one of the nation’s leading storytellers. Swift and powerful or calm and gentle, Regina’s storytelling is always a surprising adventure.

Regina has been a featured teller at the National Storytelling Festival, the St. Louis Storytelling Festival, the Ojai Storytelling Festival , Cave Run Festival, and the Tcha Tee Man Wee festival.  She has also been a teller-in-residence at the International Storytelling Center in Jonesborough, Tn.

A nationally acclaimed performer and educator, Regina  has received the Parents’ Choice Gold Award, the Parent’s Guide to Children’s Media Award, and the Leonard Bernstein Fellowship for Artists in Education.
